Anyone who's been to the Alps in winter...
is bound to have tried this yummy recipe. Not low fat at all but exactly what you need after a hard day on the slopes! (after an afternoon snack of chocolate sandwich...calories don't count when you are skiing!!). This also was a favourite of mine when I was a student since it takes no time to prepare and is fairly cheap dish to make when you live in Lyon. It's called tartiflette and uses a great, great cheese called reblochon. Reblochon is  made in Savoie from cow's milk and got a creamy texture and...fairly strong smell I give you that! Like raclette, another cheese from Savoie, it's brilliant for cooking.

So, you'll need:
(for 4 people)
1 reblochon (you can get it from Waitrose nowadays and maybe other supermarkets, or try the French Market if there is one near you. Round where we are there's one in Worthing  and Guildford)
5 large potatoes
200g of thick cut bacon
salt and pepper

Only need few minutes to prepare...

don't worry about roughly chopping the ingredients, it's a rustic dish so that's how it't meant to be done!
Pre heat your oven to 200 degres
Cut your bacon in chunks and dry fry them in a pan until crispy
Peel and cut your potatoes in 1/2 inch cubes
In a gratin dish pour your potatoes
Season them well with plenty of freshly crushed pepper and a little salt (go easy on the salt since the bacon is salty already)
Add the bacon bits on top
Slice your reblochon cheese in 2 discs
Put the 2 discs on top of your potatoes and bacon, crust side on top
Bake for 25 minutes until the cheese has completely melted

Serve with a simple green salad and a glass of fruity white wine like Apremont- if you can get your hands on a bottle!
